Cello concertos
This collaboration between Gautier Capuçon and the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Antonio Pappano, offers a unique and magical interpretation of the cello concertos by Edward Elgar and William Walton. When Gautier Capuçon first discovered Elgar’s Cello Concerto—performed by Jacqueline du Pré—at just seven years old, he immediately felt the emotional depth of the piece and formed a special connection with it. Antonio Pappano describes the concerto as a largely contemplative work, one of Elgar’s most inspiring compositions, which would go on to influence generations of English composers. Brought together on this album, the contrasting yet complementary qualities of the two composers’ works offer a rich and captivating listening experience.
